Community Bids Farewell to Associate Dean for Student Life

Holy Cross Students Cited In Baltimore Exhibit

A team of Holy Cross students, and students from Furman University, who helped create an electronic edition of a tenth century manuscript of the great mathematician Archimedes, are recognized in an exhibit running at the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore through Jan. 1, 2012.


The exhibit, titled “Lost & Found: The Secrets of Archimedes,” includes information regarding the manuscript’s preservation and digitization efforts.  The digital edition of the manuscript was released in October 2008. A photo of the Holy Cross team is featured in a section devoted to project contributors. Father McFarland Takes Part in Student Fundraiser for Breast Cancer

The fourth annual Benching for Breast Cancer fundraising event raised more than $2,000.  Working in teams of four, students solicited donation pledges based on how much they thought they could lift. While wearing a costume, they competed against other teams.

Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., president of the College, even joined in on the fun!

All proceeds benefit Pink Revolution, a Worcester-based charity committed to creating change in the lives of those touched by breast cancer.

“Wheels for Wheeler” Program Purchases 14 Bikes For Worcester Children

This year, the class of 2015 officers challenged all of the first-year residence halls to collect funds for the New England Dream Center. Wheeler Hall held its second “Wheels for Wheeler” fundraiser, which collected money to purchase bicycles for children in need through the New England Dream Center.  Funds were collected in many different ways:  Lisa Hua ‘14, a resident assistant held a week-long bake sale with residents in the social space during busy study times. Another resident assistant, Ali Scalici ‘14, sold and delivered grilled cheese to residents in Wheeler.  In Wheels for Wheeler’s first year, seven bikes were purchased for Worcester children. This year, Wheeler Hall was able to purchase 14 bikes!

Gamelan Gita Sari Performance Serves Up Thrilling Evening of Balinese Music and Dance

The Holy Cross departments of theatre and music present their famed Balinese gamelan orchestra, Gamelan Gita Sari, under the directorship of visiting fellow in Balinese performing arts, Ni Suasthi Bandem, in concert at Brooks Concert Hall.

Fr. McFarland Presents Bill Gibbons With Game Ball

Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., president, presents Bill Gibbons with a game ball after the head coach of women’s basketball earned his 500th career victory with a 61-50 win over New Hampshire on Dec. 3. The winning streak continued on Dec. 7 as the team beat Northeastern 70-68.

Students and Neighbors Come Together for Holiday House Decorating Contest

The student group SADER (Student Ambassadors Developing External Relations) hosted a Holiday Neighborhood House Decorating Contest on Dec. 6 for off-campus students and other residents of the College Hill Neighborhood. Twenty three Caro Street, pictured above, won first prize ($100 restaurant gift card); 13 Boyden Street earned second prize ($75 restaurant gift card); and 12 Clay Street was awarded third prize ($50 restaurant gift card.) Judges included students, administrators and neighbors.

The Integrated Science Complex Earns Award for Design Excellence

The Integrated Science Complex at the College of the Holy Cross earned the American Institute of Architects (AIA) New England Honor Award for Design Excellence.  Out of 184 submissions, only five were chosen for this honor.
