Staff, Alumnus in Student Affairs Honored for Outstanding Achievements at Regional Conference

Brenda Hounsell Sullivan, assistant dean/director of student involvement, and Chris Campbell ’15 were honored at the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Region 1 conference in November. Region 1 encompasses the states of Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont; the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Quebec; and the United Kingdom, Belgium, France, Ireland, Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland.

Hounsell Sullivan was the regional winner of the Doris Michiko Ching Excellence in Student Affairs Award, which honors a student affairs professional at the mid-level whose outstanding commitment to the profession includes development of programs that address the needs of students, creation of a campus environment that promotes student learning and development, and support of an active engagement in NASPA. As the regional winner of this award, Hounsell Sullivan will be considered for national recognition at the annual NASPA conference in March.

In her nomination letter, Jacqueline Peterson, vice president for student affairs, wrote of Hounsell Sullivan: “She has been instrumental in the development of our signature Gateways Orientation program which welcomes all individuals, celebrates the institution’s Jesuit Identity and embraces diversity of all kinds.”

Chris Campbell ’15 was the Massachusetts state winner of the “Catch a Rising Star” award. Campbell, who is currently completing graduate studies in higher education administration at the University of Vermont, was recognized for his work as an undergraduate at Holy Cross.

O’Neil ’09 Returns From Deployment Just in Time for Christmas

Students Deliver Holiday Gift Bags to Neighbors

For the second year in a row, the Student Government Association, the government and community relations office, the men’s lacrosse team and numerous volunteers from the Holy Cross community, delivered 50 holiday gift bags to neighbors on College Hill.

Holy Cross Athletics Honors 2005-06 Championship Hockey Team

Members of the 2005-06 men’s ice hockey team pose for a photo on the Hart Center ice rink as part of an anniversary celebration. The men’s hockey program, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary season this year, is marking the 10th anniversary of the 2005-06 team that won the Atlantic Hockey championship and defeated Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 24, 2006. The team was honored before the Crusaders’ contest versus Mercyhurst on Dec. 5, following Holy Cross athletics annual Alumni Game. The Crusaders won 7-3.

Artist-In-Residence Saul Bitran Performs at Lunchtime Concert

Artist-in-residence Saul Bitran, violin, performs alongside students during a lunchtime concert in Brooks Concert Hall. Each semester, Holy Cross’ artists-in-residence in the music department — including Bitran, Adam Golka, piano, and Jan Müller-Szeraws, cello — perform a lunchtime concert for members of the Holy Cross community. Sponsored by the music department, the First Tuesday Concert Series events are free and open to the public.
