Recognizing that students stay up late to study during finals period, administrators at the College of the Holy Cross volunteer each semester to serve the scholars breakfast late into the night. On Sunday May 13, Fr. Boroughs surprised students as he donned an apron and dining services cap and served them bacon and eggs!

The exhibit is comprised of 20 speakers operating independently, each powered by solar panels. The speakers emit recorded guitar notes in loops of different lengths.

The Holy Cross flag flies on the City Hall building in downtown Worcester in appreciation of the College’s support of the mobile library and in honor of Rev. Philip Boroughs, S.J., president, for creating partnerships with the city. Fr. Boroughs was recognized by the City Council on May 1 following the unveiling of the mobile library on the Holy Cross campus.

This coming academic year, Predrag Cicovacki, professor of philosophy and director of Peace and Conflict Studies at the College, needs to make sure he has a lot of minutes on his cell phone plan. He will be traveling to Banaras University in Varanasi, India, in the fall semester as a Senior Fulbright-Nehru Fellow at the Malaviya Centre for Peace Research. Meanwhile, daughter Vera Grek ’14 will be heading to Spain for a study abroad experience. Eldest daughter, Heidi Grek ’12, is heading to Germany to study and teach after earning a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship. Cicovacki’s youngest daughter, Lydia, will be starting her Holy Cross experience as a member of the Class of 2016, so at least one member of the family (along with his wife), will be holding down the fort here on the Hill. Goodwill volunteers man the donation truck in the Hogan Campus Center parking lot.

The College teamed up with Goodwill to host a donation drive on campus in honor of Earth Day. Thanks to the generosity of the campus community, more than 1300 pounds of clothing and household items were collected.

Chris Matthews ‘67, host of MSNBC’s “Hardball with Chris Matthews” and NBC’s “The Chris Matthews Show,” delivers a talk on his new book “Jack Kennedy: Elusive Hero” before a packed audience in the Hogan Campus Center Ballroom at Holy Cross.

During a reception held in his honor, Matthews signs a copy of his book for James Powers, professor emeritus of history. Powers was Matthews’ history professor when Matthews was a student at Holy Cross.

Also during the reception, Konnie Lukes, Worcester city councilor, presented Matthews with a key to the city.

Scores of students, faculty, staff, and members of the Worcester area wait to have Matthews sign copies of his book in the Hogan Ballroom Lounge following the talk.

A total of 300 students, faculty and staff participated in the 15th annual day of service.

The event, sponsored by the Brother to Brother committee, is held to recognize the many roles that women play in the Holy Cross community and their vital importance.
