Students Deliver Holiday Gift Bags to Neighbors

For the second year in a row, the Student Government Association, the government and community relations office, the men’s lacrosse team and numerous volunteers from the Holy Cross community, delivered 50 holiday gift bags to neighbors on College Hill.

Holy Cross Athletics Honors 2005-06 Championship Hockey Team

Members of the 2005-06 men’s ice hockey team pose for a photo on the Hart Center ice rink as part of an anniversary celebration. The men’s hockey program, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary season this year, is marking the 10th anniversary of the 2005-06 team that won the Atlantic Hockey championship and defeated Minnesota in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on March 24, 2006. The team was honored before the Crusaders’ contest versus Mercyhurst on Dec. 5, following Holy Cross athletics annual Alumni Game. The Crusaders won 7-3.

Family Weekend Kicks Off with Inaugural 5k Road Race

Holy Cross family and friends kick off Family Weekend with the inaugural “Crusaders Against Cancer 5k” road race on campus. The Crusaders Against Cancer 5K presented by Carr Financial Group supports the 15-40 Connection, a Worcester-based cancer 501(c)(3) charity.

At the completion of the race participants proudly displayed “I Conquered Mount St. James” placards. No other race course like Holy Cross’ exists in New England. The course starts on the track behind the Hart Center at the very top of Mount St. James. Race markers and volunteers then direct runners along a carefully designed course that displays some of the most beautiful aspects on campus. Runners appreciate the gradual downslope through the first half of the course followed by a gradual incline that brings runners back to the track at the Hart Center.

Holy Cross Community Members Gather with PepsiCo Team

Holy Cross Athletics and Dining staff gather with members of the PepsiCo implementation team including Anne Fink ’85, chief operating officer, PepsiCo North American Foodservice. PepsiCo recently became the official beverage supplier at Holy Cross. The new 5-year partnership features PepsiCo’s comprehensive beverage lineup of Pepsi carbonated soft drinks (including Mountain Dew), Starbucks bottled iced coffees, and Gatorade sports drinks, among others. The partnership further expands to a wide range of snack products, including Frito-Lay, Quaker and other PepsiCo food products. PepsiCo brands will be provided in all campus dining areas, athletic venues, and in the approximately 35 vending machines on campus. Under plans to be executed over time, PepsiCo will also deliver customized marketing programs and unique concession options, as well as provide innovative on-campus recycling initiatives.

Worcester Bravehearts Take on Wachusett Dirt Dawgs on Opening Day

The Worcester Bravehearts return to Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field for their home opener against the Wachusett Dirt Dawgs. This is the second year of the partnership between Holy Cross, the city of Worcester, the Futures League, and local business owner John W.S. Creedon Jr. in their collective efforts to keep the tradition of baseball alive within the Worcester community. In their inaugural year, the Bravehearts won the FCBL Championships series dethroning the Martha’s Vineyard Sharks.

An Amazing Place for an Amazing Race

Twenty teams of two gathered outside of the Hogan Campus Center to begin the third annual Holy Cross Amazing Race, sponsored by the Student Government Association and the Office of Recreation, Intramurals, and Club Sports. Teams competed for clues in both physical and mental challenges including completing puzzles, a field goal and more to advance through the on-campus course.

In a second attempt for one of the three cash prizes, student blogger Andrew Cook ’15, right, and cousin Ben Nicholson ’17 represented Team To In-Fitton-y and Beyond, a reference to the Fitton Football Stadium at Holy Cross. Alas, first place was taken by Will Bowers ’15 and Gavin Millay ’15, followed by Joseph Metzger ’17 and Joseph DeVivo ’17 in second place and third to Justin Marino ‘16 and Jeff Daniels ’16.

Holy Cross Past, Present and Future Gather in Los Angeles

In celebration of Crusaders past, present and future, admitted students, alumni and guests attended a special reception in downtown Los Angeles. Together, they connected with classmates and friends, learned about what is new and exciting on campus and shared their Holy Cross experiences.

Guests also gathered to watch the presentation of the Bob Cousy Award sponsored by Holy Cross during the first-ever College Basketball Awards Show on ESPN2. The award, named for Holy Cross and Boston Celtics great Bob Cousy ’50, is awarded to college basketball’s top point guard, along with additional awards presented by some of basketball’s all-time great players.

New Graphics Give Hart Center Fresh Look

The Hart Center has a new and engaging look to the entrance and main hallway, which brings to life the storied history of Holy Cross Athletics, in addition to showcasing a number of current student-athletes.

The main lobby of the Hart Center is home to the Holy Cross Varsity Club Hall of Fame. The display includes plaques highlighting the accomplishments of every member of the Hall of Fame, which includes more than 300 former Holy Cross standouts.

There are 6,100 fire hydrants across the city of Worcester in need of shoveling. On February 19, the city of Worcester, in conjunction with the Worcester Sharks, Worcester Bravehearts, the DCU Center and the Harlem Globetrotters announced the ‪#‎woochallenge on Facebook, offering prize packages to Worcester residents who help the city dig out from this winter’s record-breaking snow and improve public safety in their community.‬‬‬
