Chris Matthews ’67, host of MSNBC’s Hardball and NBC’s The Chris Matthews Show, gives a wide-ranging talk and signs books in the Hogan Campus Center. Read a profile of Matthews on the Holy Cross site, and about his talk in the Telegram & Gazette.

Matthews poses with one of his professors during his time at Holy Cross, James F. Powers, professor emeritus of history. Both in his memoir Now, Let Me Tell You What I Really Think, and in his televised visit to campus commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Kennedy assassination, Matthews made specific mentions of Powers. It was in Professor Powers’ Western Civilization class on Nov. 22, 1963 that Matthews and others first heard the news flash about the president’s shooting, and like most of his generation, he vividly recalls the details of that moment, down to Professor Powers’ response.
