Father McFarland Takes Part in Student Fundraiser for Breast Cancer

The fourth annual Benching for Breast Cancer fundraising event raised more than $2,000.  Working in teams of four, students solicited donation pledges based on how much they thought they could lift. While wearing a costume, they competed against other teams.

Rev. Michael C. McFarland, S.J., president of the College, even joined in on the fun!

All proceeds benefit Pink Revolution, a Worcester-based charity committed to creating change in the lives of those touched by breast cancer.

“Wheels for Wheeler” Program Purchases 14 Bikes For Worcester Children

This year, the class of 2015 officers challenged all of the first-year residence halls to collect funds for the New England Dream Center. Wheeler Hall held its second “Wheels for Wheeler” fundraiser, which collected money to purchase bicycles for children in need through the New England Dream Center.  Funds were collected in many different ways:  Lisa Hua ‘14, a resident assistant held a week-long bake sale with residents in the social space during busy study times. Another resident assistant, Ali Scalici ‘14, sold and delivered grilled cheese to residents in Wheeler.  In Wheels for Wheeler’s first year, seven bikes were purchased for Worcester children. This year, Wheeler Hall was able to purchase 14 bikes!

The Integrated Science Complex Earns Award for Design Excellence

The Integrated Science Complex at the College of the Holy Cross earned the American Institute of Architects (AIA) New England Honor Award for Design Excellence.  Out of 184 submissions, only five were chosen for this honor.

Holy Cross Partners Up with Special Olympians

Matt Zielinski ’13, Archie Bellos ’12 and Chris Tota ’13 started a new program at the College: HC Goes Unified. The group invites Special Olympians to campus on Sundays to play sports together with Holy Cross students. Nearly 50-60 Holy Cross students show up to play on the same field or court with the Special Olympians.

In the last game of the season, the HC Goes Unified team played against the Holy Cross men’s and women’s soccer teams.  Learn more about the program.

Campus Community Participates in UMasss Medicine Cancer Walk

More than 300 students, faculty, and staff members from Holy Cross were among the 10,000 people who participated in the 13th annual UMass Medicine Cancer Walk on Sunday, Sept. 25. The College, which is a flagship sponsor of this fundraising event, raised more than $13,000! Read more about the event.

Worcester Kids Cool Off in Holy Cross Pool

Unusually hot temperatures brought Worcester brothers Prustide and Nathan to the Hart Swimming Pool at the College of the Holy Cross yesterday to cool off.  Holy Cross became a host site this year for Wheels to Water, a City of Worcester program that provides access for local children to area pools and beaches.  The College also donated $10,000 to support operational costs for the program. Youth from Autumn Woods Apartments in Worcester can swim for free at the Hart Swimming Pool on campus on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 3-5 p.m.

Holy Cross Students Attend Conference on Naval Academy Science and Engineering

Nazarian and Delisio are currently attending the Naval Academy Science and Engineering Conference in Annapolis. The students are learning about cyber security, transportation (energy grid) and disaster preparedness.

This is the first year Holy Cross students have been invited to the event.

Pink the Rink: Men’s Hockey Raises Over $8,000 for Breast Cancer

The Holy Cross men’s hockey team defeated Bentley, 4-0, in Atlantic Hockey action in front of a crowd of 2,009 at the Hart Center on Feb. 13 on “Pink The Rink” night. Holy Cross wore a special edition pink jersey to show its support for breast cancer awareness. The jerseys were auctioned off throughout the game as they raised $8,070 with all the proceeds going to the Levine Cancer Center in Worcester.

It was also winter homecoming at Holy Cross as freshman goalie Thomas Tysowsky was awarded the MVP trophy by Tom Mahon ‘85 from the Holy Cross Club of Worcester.
