A record number of Air Force, Navy and Marine Corps ROTC alumni, members of the current NROTC unit at Holy Cross, as well as non-alumni, friends and family who support the activities of the Society, attended the dinner, which honors the memory of Rev. Joseph Timothy O’Callahan, S.J., recipient of the Medal of Honor for heroic service in WWII. This year, the keynote speaker was the highest-ranking officer ever to stand at the O’Callahan podium, Adm. Michelle Howard, Vice Chief of Naval Operations. She delivered an inspiring speech about using one’s moral and ethical courage in times of crisis and in everyday life. She also likened the camaraderie of Holy Cross alumni and students to the fellowship among Navy personnel serving on a vessel at sea. (Photo courtesy of Suzanne D’Angelo)

Chicago-area Alumni Cheer on the Men’s Basketball Team

March 19th, 2014 by csteuer

Phil Beans ’13, a former captain of the College of the Holy Cross men’s basketball team, organized a viewing party at the Hidden Shamrock in Chicago to watch the men’s basketball team take on American in the Patriot League semifinal tournament game.

Even thought the men’s team didn’t win the game, more than 25 Chicago-area alumni donned their purple to come out for the event. “Everyone had fun and even though we couldn’t pull out the win, I think everyone wants to make this a yearly event,” said Beans.
