DayoftheDead1

The “Day of the Dead” (or All Souls’ Day) altar/display in the Lower Gathering/Baptismal Space of St. Joseph Chapel is set up to commemorate All Souls Day (Nov. 2). The display stays up for most of November, a month when Catholics and many other Christians remember and honor their deceased loved ones. Along with the altar/display, a reception was held after the 7 p.m. Mass on Sunday, Nov. 1 and featured sweet bread and hot chocolate that are traditionally enjoyed on the Day of the Dead in Mexico.  The idea came from Latin American Student Organization and Cynthia Stone, associate professor of Spanish and director of the Latin American and Latino Studies program at Holy Cross. The display complements the Remembrance Books and cards that are displayed in the upper and lower chapels during the month of November.
