Holy Cross Commemorates 10th Anniversary of 9/11

The Chaplains’ Office held an interfaith vigil to mark the 10-year anniversary of Sept. 11 in Memorial Plaza, which is dedicated to the members of the Holy Cross community and beyond who were victims of the tragedy. View coverage and more photos from the interfaith vigil.


A bronze plaque at Memorial Plaza bears the names of the seven alumni who were killed in the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11: Edward A. Brennan III ’86, Thomas D. Burke ’85, Neilie A. Heffernan Casey ’90, John G. Farrell ’91, Todd A. Isaac ’94, Beth A. Quigley ’97 and John J. Ryan ’78.

Bring Your Child to Work Day Offers Educational and Fun Experience

Hannah Irish, daughter of Paul Irish, assistant to the vice president for Student Affairs and director of Student Conduct and Community Standards, enjoys coloring during Bring Your Child to Work Day. Sponsored by the Student Government Association, Bring Your Child to Work Day offers activities to help children of Holy Cross faculty and administrators learn about the importance of a college education and learn more about what their parents do at the college.

Monumental Floating Sculpture Installed in St. Joseph Chapel

Hundreds of sheets of shorn fiberglass fabric create a monumental, curving, floating sculpture above the main aisle of St. Joseph Chapel. Titled Curalium, the original, contemporary sculptural installation by German artist Angela Glajcar, pictured above with Roger Hankins, director of the Cantor Art Gallery, will be on display from March 25 – May 16.

Men’s Ice Hockey Raises $800 for Cancer Charity

The second annual “Pink the Rink” benefit game, sponsored by the Holy Cross men’s ice hockey team, brought in more than $800 for Pink Revolution, a local charity that supports women suffering from breast cancer at UMass Memorial Hospital. Holy Cross Hosts Lighting Fair

Holy Cross’ Presidential Task Force on the Environment will host an Energy Saving Lighting Fair, in which students, faculty and staff can purchase a variety of high-quality energy-efficient lighting products at deep discounts from an Energy Star certified vendor. Holy Cross Celebrates World Smile Day

The Holy Cross community is all smiles for World Smile Day. Charlie Ball, son of Harvey Ball, a Worcester native who invented the smiley face, presents Rev. Michael C. McFarland, president of Holy Cross, with a “You’ve Been Smiled!” certificate.

Student Affairs hosted a “Smile Station” on the first floor of the Hogan Campus Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. where free smiley face goods and information about Worcester was available.

Relay for Life Raises $2,000 for American Cancer Society

Hundreds of Holy Cross students, faculty, and staff participated in a student-organized 24-hour walkathon that raised more than $2,000 for the American Cancer Society. The money will go directly to cancer research. For the full 24 hours, there was at least one participant walking. In addition, 20 to 30 participants spent the night on the track.

Odyssey Program Welcomes First-Year ALANA, International Students
